At the Table With Painters
This series began as a way of sitting down with painters I admire—placing their books on my table as both reference and invitation. Each painting becomes a conversation across time, where everyday objects stand in for presence: a cup, a flower, a small offering, a page left open.
I return more than once to Vincent van Gogh, drawn to his urgency and devotion to color. Revisiting him allows me to explore how the same influence can shift—how mood, memory, and attention change what we see, even when the subject feels familiar.
In contrast, Matisse leads me toward shape and rhythm, while Frida Kahlo opens a more personal space, where objects become symbolic—holding sweetness, weight, and quiet emotion.
These paintings are not copies, but responses. They are moments of closeness—to color, to objects, and to the artists who continue to shape how I see.
